Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is scheduled to welcome two cruise ships simultaneously for the first time on 16 November 2027, according to MSC Cruises' published deployment plans.

The planned call would see MSC Seaside and MSC Grandiosa visit the Bahamian private-island destination together, providing the clearest operational indication so far of when Ocean Cay's proposed second cruise berth could be ready for use.

MSC Cruises has not yet issued a separate announcement confirming a formal opening date for the expanded pier, so the deployment remains subject to change.

MSC Seaside and MSC Grandiosa scheduled together

The inaugural double call is expected to involve two ships operating four-night Bahamas cruises from different Florida homeports.

MSC Seaside is scheduled to sail from Miami, while MSC Grandiosa is expected to depart from Port Canaveral. Both itineraries include an overnight stay at Ocean Cay and a visit to Nassau.

Handling the ships together would represent a significant operational change for the destination, which currently receives one cruise ship alongside its existing pier at a time.

Sixteen double visits listed before the end of 2027

Fifteen additional two-ship visits are reportedly listed between the inaugural call and the end of 2027, involving vessels operated by MSC Cruises and sister luxury brand Explora Journeys.

One of the most notable pairings is scheduled for 19 December 2027, when MSC World America and MSC World Atlantic are expected to visit together.

The two 205,700-gross-ton sister ships could bring more than 11,000 passengers and almost 4,500 crew members to Ocean Cay at the same time. Although not everyone onboard would necessarily go ashore, the call illustrates the substantial increase in visitor capacity that a second berth would make possible.

Ocean Cay expansion continues

Ocean Cay is undergoing a wider expansion programme that is expected to add dining venues, enlarged relaxation areas and new beach concepts designed for families and adults.

The second berth is a central part of those plans. It would allow MSC Cruises to accommodate overlapping calls, provide greater flexibility across its Bahamas deployments and potentially host an MSC Cruises vessel alongside a ship from Explora Journeys.

The development is strategically important because Ocean Cay features heavily in MSC's cruises from Florida. Increasing the island's capacity would enable more itineraries to include the private destination as the company's North American fleet grows.

Sandy Cay planned for 2028

MSC has also announced plans for Sandy Cay, an adjacent private-island experience expected to complement Ocean Cay from 2028.

Further details about the project remain limited, but its addition would form another stage in the company's expansion of its private-destination offering in the Bahamas.

Opening date has not been formally confirmed

The appearance of double calls in MSC's deployment schedules is strong evidence that the company expects two berths to be operational by November 2027. It is not, however, the same as a formal construction or opening announcement.

Port projects and cruise itineraries can change, particularly this far in advance. The planned 16 November call should therefore be treated as the first scheduled use of the expanded capacity rather than a guaranteed opening date for the second berth.

Deck7 will update this report when MSC Cruises confirms the pier's completion timetable or publishes further details about the Ocean Cay expansion.
